History of association international school

The history of the Association International School from its beginnings in 1963 to the present, is the story of a man who started a small private international school, hardly known beyond the limits of its city in the twentieth century, and stamped it with his ideals of education, transforming it into a natioanlly recognized institution. Colonel George E. Amuah Rtd gave the school its basic character through the strength of of his own good qualities. It is a legacy that continues to this day. Looking for the ideal school where all of his children could attend together, Colonel George E. Amuah founded Association International School in the Airport Residential Area, Accra, in 1963, to provide both scholastic training and moral education for his children and others. Determined to give the children of AIS the best, Colonel Amuah recruited an exceptional faculty that reflected internationalism in the true sense. By exposing its students to the rigors of a strict comprehensive education, AIS gave its students an exceptional, well-rounded curriculum, and students of AIS developed the mental discipline they needed to meet future challenges of life. Under the leadership of Mrs. Dorothy H. Amuah, Head of Administration, AIS soon became the number one and most sought after school in the country. If one could not gain admission into the school, they had to go elsewhere. Today, many of AIS’s students are trailblazers in many multi national companies, and professional and governmental organizations. The school has remained in its original site since 1963 and has undergone many changes. However, over the years, the school fell into despair and lost its great reputation as a school of excellence. Then, in 2009, the democratic administration led by His excellency President John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor released and returned all confiscated assets to their rightful owners. Thus, after 25 years, AIS was returned to the Amuah’s. Then began a period of transition for AIS, where students under the Ghana Education Service had to be transitioned and transferred to another government school and AIS was closed down for a massive and major refurbishment and facelift in 2010. In September of 2011, the newly, renovated private international school opened its doors to the public again. The beautiful main campus is set on 5 acres and is in its phase 2 of a major capital improvement plan, which will eventually provide more state of the art buildings and resources to suplement the already existing classrooms. AIS has now added 2 ultra modern boarding facilities for 8th through 12th grade students. Today, AIS is a day and boarding school and has over 350 students on its campus and is still growing. The student and faculty body of AIS is diverse and are truly representational of an international community.
