nigerian christian institute

The Nigerian Christian Institute (NCI) is a group of educational institutions established by Obong (Dr.) Okon Effiong Mkpong to provide quality Christian education in the South-South region of Nigeria. The journey to the NCI began in January 1982, on the foundation of the School of Preaching, which was initially situated at 123 Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo.           In January 1988, the Secondary School was approved and started operations with less than fifty students; and by May 1993, the pioneer SS3 class registered and sat for the May/June West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE). But the NCI secondary school has grown by leaps and bounds since 1988. From its pioneer students, the school boasts a current population of one hundred and fifty staff, who are divided into eight academic departments, six non-academic units and the medical centre: the Departments of English and Arts, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Home Economics, Technical Education, Religious Studies and Business Studies; and Accounts, Tailoring, Library, Transport, Security and Cooking Units; respectively. On infrastructure, The NCI secondary school began with a single building, the Francis Carson/Marvin Jones Administrative Block, a three-storey building constructed between June 1987 and December 1988. However, the campus has grown from a single building to over twenty-two buildings, more than half of which are multi-storey, situated on a ten-hectare purpose built campus.
