The school calls the department computer and information science department. The Department started in 2002 when the University commenced.


Computer Science and Management Information System programmes were under the then Department of Computer and Information Technology with Prof. T.S. Ibiyemi as the Head of the Department.


In August 2017, the headship of the Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS) witnessed the emergence of a pioneer faculty in the person of Prof. V.C. Osamor to pilot the affairs of this strategic Department. He served as the HOD CIS between 2017 and 2018.


Proffesoor Osamor handed over to the new HOD, Professor Ambrose Azeta, which has since assumed this leadership role as the current HOD, CIS.


The Department which started with 13 faculty has produced several graduates at B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D levels.


University of Lagos

Federal University of Technology, Akure


Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) one of the leading public universities in Nigeria. The school was established in 1981.


The school is reputed as one of the best in Nigeria and the Federal University of Technology Akure is consistently ranked among the top universities in the country that has a computer school program.


At the onset (2015/2016 academic session), the Computer Engineering Programme took off with seventy (70) students. Since then there has been a growth in the Programme and a steady increase in student enrollment to a total of 265 students in the 2018/2019 academic session.


In 2017/2018 academic session, a Coordinator Dr. (Mrs) F. M. Dahunsi was appointed to coordinate the programme in conjunction with the Head of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Dr. A.A. Ponnle.


In November 2018, the Programme became a full-fledged Department and Dr. (Mrs) F. M. Dahunsi was made the Ag. Head of the Computer Engineering Department.


The Department is empowered by staff from the Computer Engineering Department and both the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department and Computer Science Department with a number of Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers, and others.


The University promotes an interdisciplinary approach in the delivery of courses.


Engineering Mathematics are taught by Mathematical Science Department, Mechanical Engineering Department handles Engineering Drawings and other Mechanical Engineering related courses, other engineering departments in the School of Engineering handles other related engineering courses, while Computer Science Department is responsible for some software related courses.

The Federal Technology Minna


Futminna is one of the best universities in technology and one of the best universities in Nigeria. The school has a faculty of engineering that comprises of the computer engineering department.


School of engineering and engineering technology (SEET) is one of the Schools in the Federal University of Technology, Minna. It was established in earnest in 1986 and produced its first set of graduates in 1989.


The Departments of Agriculture, Civil, Electrical & Computer and Mechanical Engineering were the first to commence in the School. Subsequently, Chemical Engineering was established a year later.


Currently, the School has expanded further with many new departments namely Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering.


Although the School started with a humble population of fewer than twenty students, it now has over 2,500 undergraduate students in the eight departments. The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 2009.


The Department awards a degree of B. Eng. (Computer Engineering) for the undergraduate. The Department now runs postgraduate programmes in M. Eng. and Ph.D. (Computer Engineering). Computer Engineering is one of the Departments in the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology.


Other Departments in the school include Agriculture & Bioresources Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Material & Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Telecommunication Engineering.

University of Benin

The department of computer engineering at the University of Benin is one of the best in Nigeria.


The need for the establishment of a Department of Chemical Engineering was recognized, and priority of consideration was accorded it in 1970 at the founding of the Midwest Institute of Technology, Benin, which subsequently became the University of Benin, Benin City.


The establishment of the Department in 1973 with the offering of a programme for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering as one of the two-degree programme in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering.


The programme for the Bachelor of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering was the other programme.


Afe Babalola University


Afebabalola University established her Computer Engineering Department was in September 2010. The programme has seasoned senior academic staff in different areas of specialization to contribute their expertise towards the growth of the programme and the department.


In accordance with COREN requirements, each student has a personal computer to ease information dissemination for academic homework and practical improvements on computer literacy.


So far, the University has maintained strict compliance with its academic calendar which makes it possible for students to pre-determine their possible date of completion of their programmes even before enrollment.


It has been the policy of the University to post on-line students’ results within 24 hours of approval by the Senate.
