Auntie Maria School

Auntie Maria Nursery School is one of the oldest best schools in Edo State. The school was approved in 1974.

The first site of the school was the Catholic Centre on Mission Road, Benin City. Then there were only three classes; KG1A, 2A and 3A. In 1976 the school moved to a building on Uwa Street, off Wire Road, in same Benin City, due to the need for expansion; then there were six classes, i.e. two arms each.

In 1978 the school moved to Artillery Road, off Siluko Road, due to further expansion. By this time it became necessary to plan for a primary school. In 1984 the school moved to its present permanent site where the primary section took off.

Over the years, one of the things that have drawn parents' attention to this school, apart from the high moral standard and learning environment is the high academic standard available.

In 1990 when the gifted children school started, out of the seven places allocated to Bendel state, the school produced one pupil. Then, in 1992, out of the available two slots for Edo state, the school produced the two pupils. Pupils were usually selected after a general test which the best pupils from all schools sat.
