CHA is a state of the art, purpose built school in a serene equipped with interactive whiteboards. The school also has specialist studio/suites for Science, Music, ICT, Art and Drama. The Early Years Foundation Stage children have their own dedicated mini splash pool, sand pit, outside playground with climbing equipment and an indoor soft-play room whilst other classrooms also feature special ‘breakout’ rooms for more individual small group work. The whole building has wireless network access for networking and group works whilst outside playground equipment meet international standards of safety and flexibility. LEARNING APPROACH TO LEARNING: CHA provides a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum to meet the wide ranging needs of our students. We seek to develop individual talents and strengths. CURRICULUM At CHA, we follow a blended curriculum which include EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stages), Montessori, IPC (International Primary Curriculum) and Nigeria. The main emphasis is on providing a secure and nurturing environment which allows all children to develop at their own pace. ICT CHA is totally committed to developing and integrating learning technologies within the classroom and the whole educational environment. Students will be opened to detailed Virtual Learning Environment and Google Apps online resource that enable students, teachers and parents to create, communicate and collaborate on a variety of assignments, activities and projects. Information Technology Information Technology is fully integrated into the curriculum and plays a vital role in each class. Classroom are equipped with an interactive whiteboard (IWB) and an internet connection, which is used by teachers and students as an important tool for learning. MUSIC Music has played an important role at our schools and we have sought to bring the strong tradition of musical excellence found in many places to CHA. Whole class instrumental music lessons provide every student with the opportunity to discover and learn an instrument they enjoy. Individual lessons are also provided during the school day for student who wish to make faster progress on any chosen instrument. LEARNING SUPPORT CHA encourages all students to develop to their full potential but recognizes that some children progress at different rates to their peers. These children may require an Individual Education Plan to be written for them to break their learning down into small achievable goals. However, the school is unable to accept children with significant learning difficulties. COMMUNITY At CHA, students will be nurtured to be responsible citizen through a range of planned community service and fund raising activities by the school. This will encourage students to be curious and active members of their community. Our focus will be on these 3 areas – people, the environment and leadership. SCHOOL LIFE SAFETY FOR ALL It is our priority that all students feel safe and secure at school. Regular checks are made to ensure that the facilities and environment are safe for all who attend the school. CHA operates a gate control policy to ensure the safety of children and staff at school as well as the protection of school buildings and property. Guards should be entirely satisfied that each person who enters the school grounds has a valid reason for doing so. At the end of the school day, students will only be allowed to leave the premises with an authorised adult who has the student’s swipe card. SCHOOL HOURS: ARRIVAL: The school opens by 7am with staff and 7:20am for students. Lesson will start by 8:20am and no lateness is allowed. CLOSURE/PICK UP: The school closes by 2pm Monday – Thursday and parents are expected to pick their children by 2:30pm. The school closes 1pm every Friday and pick up time is 1:30pm. WELFARE AND GUIDANCE Welfare and Guidance is incorporated into all aspects of our students’ moral, social, emotional and academic development, with a focus on each individual attaining their personal best. UNIFORM Students are expected to wear simple black leather shoes. We will not allow novelty shoes with flashing lights, squeaking noises or shoes which have the roller ball facility. In addition to this, all students are to wear blue socks and all girls with long hair should have it tied back with either a soft hair band. Uniform are available at the Admin Office. HOUSE COLOUR SYSTEM Students are allocated a House for Inter-House competitions and other sport activities. House T-shirts are issued as part of the uniform. MEDICAL TEAM The nurse works together with the teachers and other staff to provide a high level of care for students. The school nurse will attend to students who become ill or injured during the school day. The school will contact parents to take their child home if He/She becomes ill during the day and is unable to stay at school. In the case of a medical emergency situation, we will transport the student to the school registered Clinic unless parents have specified a different clinic or hospital. A responsible adult from the school will accompany the student to the clinic and await the arrival of the parents. MEDICAL FORM A completed medical form for each student enrolled must be submitted before entry to the school. Please keep the office informed of any change in home, business or emergency phone numbers. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Extracurricular activities provide a great opportunity for our students to take part in an activity that falls outside the realm of the normal curriculum. At CHA, we offer a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities that cater to a range of ages, interests and ability levels. Children have the opportunity to explore their physical, creative, social or political sides and share diverse interests with like-minded students. Our extracurricular activities provide a fantastic opportunity for students to practise their social skills, make new friends, and discover new and diverse interests outside of the classroom, all of which helps them develop into responsible, engaged and globally minded individuals. OUR EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Crafty Kids, EYFS Library Club, music class, swimming, ballet/dance club, leadership club, Coding, Young Artists etc OUR STAFF CHA seeks to employ and maintain committed, dedicated experts who will team up closely with other colleagues and reflect upon their roles in the school community. Our members of staff are strong and innovative, constantly re-visiting ways diverse ways to plant and nurture students. Continued Professional Development for Teachers CHA seeks to promote life-long learning for all members of staff and to create a productive and positive school culture. During the session, each teacher will be observed formally by the school consultant. This is to evaluate teachers’ performance and to offer, where necessary, suggestions for further skill development as well as to inform discussions about career development. The school has a significant budget to support the Continued Professional Development of teachers every session.
