About Us

Students educational background are reinforced in this ten-months programme in the Pure and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, and Arts courses leading to the University of Cambridge (UK) Advanced level examinations for which the Kaduna Campus is a British Council (Nigeria) approved examination centre. Students with credit and distinction passes in the WAEC/GCE O-level examinations are admitted for the courses.

With over twenty years of renowned and exceptional teaching qualities and strong academic guidance for our students, the post secondary arm of the College has a lot to live up to. It is in this vein that in our bid to continually face present day challenges in the educational sector that we have proceeded to introduce a variety of additional courses available for prospective and ambitious candidates. These have been designed to bridge the gap between knowledge, opportunity and practical application of skills.

Admission Requirements

Admission is based on merit in an entrance examination and subsequent interviews from March-August each year. The College endeavours to admit pupils from all states of the federation and Abuja Mayoral district. Special consideration is given to Kaduna and Osun States indigenes. Foreign students are also admitted.

Boarding is compulsory for all secondary students to enable them benefit from the comprehensive nature of the curriculum.

History

The institution which was registered with and was approved by the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, was established under the name Bright Star Nursery and Day Care Center in September, 1982, to cater for the welfare and mental development of children from infancy until school age. In 1984, there was a change in name to Gray’s International School when the primary section was incorporated.

With the sole aim and determination of providing an increasing number of primary school leavers with the opportunity of higher and qualitative education, irrespective of sex, social, religious or ethnic background, classes in the Secondary School commenced in January, 1990, in the Kaduna Campus.

The nursery arm of the College celebrated its 10th Anniversary between 15th and 21st November, 1992. The very first convocation ceremony for the pioneer set of the secondary school students took place in July, 1995. This celebration attracted a number of distinguished personalities to the College amongst which were:

Six years on, in 2001, Gray’s College, Ede, emerged. This arm of the College was established in the Southern region of Nigeria with the same set of aims and objectives as those already established at the Kaduna Campus. Another landmark in the history of the institution was recorded in 2004 when an eminent Nigerian educationist in the person of Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Hamza, mni, OFR, GCOSA, was installed as visitor to the College. During this ceremony, a number of prominent personalities were also conferred with the fellowship of the College. They were:

Subsequent convocation ceremonies of the College also engendered history in the making, as the College welcomed Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Amina Titi Abubakar, wife of the former Vice-President, Federal Republic of Nigeria and Founder, Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF), as well as Prof. Oluremi Aina, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Idris, CFR, Emir of Zazzau, His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Makarfi, ex-governor, Kaduna State and Late Engr. Stephen Shekeri, a former Deputy Governor of Kaduna State; All of whom were also conferred the award of “Fellow”, Gray’s College.
