A Brief History of Imperial Gate School Imperial Gate School (IGS) began its journey on Monday, 17 September 2007, with the opening of its first academic session in a modest converted building. The school welcomed just five pioneering pupils—three girls and two boys, two of whom were children of staff members. Three dedicated teachers were on hand to receive these history-making children, with classes prepared from Preschool to Year 5. Within just one week, consistent publicity and growing community interest increased enrolment to 17 pupils. The vision for Imperial Gate School was conceived by the late Mrs. Omobolanle Oluremilekun Olubunmi, a woman of remarkable foresight, imagination, determination, and unwavering passion for quality education. She shared her dream with like-minded individuals who believed in her vision and became shareholders and members of the Board of Directors, laying a strong foundation for the school's future. In October 2007, the academic leadership of the school was entrusted to Mrs. Mabel Ogaraku. By the end of its first academic year, Imperial Gate School had grown significantly, with enrolment rising to 68 pupils and the workforce expanding to 29 staff members. During that inaugural year, the school celebrated its first National Day and hosted its first Christmas Concert—events that became memorable milestones for pupils, teachers, and parents alike. The commitment, enthusiasm, and teamwork displayed during those early days remain cherished memories, especially among the pioneering staff. In 2008, the school organised its first Spring Camp, an initiative that further enhanced its reputation and contributed to increased enrolment. As the school community expanded, the need for additional learning spaces became evident, leading to the acquisition of another building to accommodate more classrooms and administrative offices. A defining moment in the school's history came in February 2010 with the passing of its founder and visionary leader, Mrs. Omobolanle Oluremilekun Olubunmi. Following this great loss, the Governing Board appointed Mrs. Mabel Ogaraku as Head of School. Under her exceptional leadership, supported by a committed Board of Directors, a team of experienced educators, dedicated parents, and the grace of God, Imperial Gate School has continued to grow in strength, reputation, and excellence. Over the years, one of the school's distinguishing achievements has been the outstanding academic performance of its Year 6 pupils in highly competitive entrance examinations into leading secondary schools across Nigeria and abroad. This consistent record of excellence reflects the school's unwavering commitment to high academic standards. Beyond academic excellence, we are committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience that nurtures every aspect of a child's development—social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and moral. We create opportunities for pupils to discover, develop, and express their God-given talents through a balanced programme of academic excellence, creative arts, sports, leadership, and co-curricular activities, equipping them with the skills, values, and confidence to thrive in an ever-changing world. To the glory of God, in January 2024, Imperial Gate School moved into its permanent, purpose-built School in Central Lekki Estate, Lekki Phase 1. The modern facility provides a serene, secure, and conducive learning environment designed to support excellence in teaching and learning while inspiring creativity, innovation, and personal growth. For over 18 years, Imperial Gate School has remained committed to providing high-quality education for diverse learners. We employ a wide range of effective teaching strategies that enable every child to succeed academically and personally. Our small class sizes ensure that each pupil receives individual attention, allowing strengths to be recognised, unique learning styles to be nurtured, and specific learning needs to be effectively supported. At Imperial Gate, no child is left behind. Our pupils are equipped with the essential competencies required for success in the 21st century, including strong STEM skills, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving abilities. As a result, Imperial Gate pupils continue to excel in diverse endeavours, making meaningful contributions within their communities and beyond. Today, Imperial Gate School stands as a thriving learning community built on a foundation of vision, faith, excellence, integrity, and service.
