About Us

MONCORDEL, is a leading independent day and boarding school with  computer education in Nigeria, striving to provide quality education from reception to year 11 (age 4 to 16+).

The MONCORDEL International School endeavors to provide a qualitative British education in a happy, caring and supportive environment. We believe that this can best be accomplished when children feel valued and are treated with dignity. Our curriculum both in and out of the classroom, provides experiences for children which are academically, socially, physically and aesthetically challenging, while promoting in them a spirit of tolerance and understanding towards others. Our children are given opportunities to develop open and enquiring minds through problem solving and co-operative learning activities. At the same time, we believe in the need for an academically demanding program which emphasizes traditional values of hard-work and self-discipline. We endeavor to value pupils for their achievement and turn failure into future success.

We believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in their day to day learning, and where they are given considerable responsibility for their studies. We value what children achieve rather than focus on their failures. Ultimately, we believe that when children enjoy school, they will make accelerated progress towards intellectual maturity, while taking advantage of the social and cultural activities which we share with them.

We value parents, engaging them as full partners in their child’s education and we do everything we can to make them feel welcome, and committed to the school.

We also believe in the need to nurture and develop all our staff both professionally and personally, since it is they who create the climate in which our children will learn most effectively. We enrich our staff by providing opportunities for personal and professional development both in-house, within Nigeria and where possible training abroad. It also means that we keep up to date with educational developments, particularly in the United Kingdom to ensure that we uphold a British tradition.

Admission Requirements

Moncordel International Secondary accepts children from 18 months through 5th grade. Although Moncordel will accept students in the elementary who have not had a Montessori experience in pre-school, the pre-school education is at the base of our learning pyramid.

Moncordel reserves the right to deny enrollment to students who have developmental problems that interfere with the student’s learning process. If the student can adapt, the facility is open to him, but if a personal aide is required, the school does not share this cost.

History

The idea to establish a Christian International School was conceived in 1986 when our Director, Pastor Monday Enwere, started an adult school in Kaduna State of Nigeria. The Adult school discontinued nine months after it was founded because our Director left Kaduna to the then Bendel State of Nigeria where he got a job with Conital Construction Company immediately after his National Youths Service (NYSC) year. The vision reverberated in the heart and Mind of Pastor Monday in 1996 but was delayed because Living Christian Bible Church (pioneered) was just at the brink of being born. Nevertheless, pre-commissioning road map commenced and continued until September 2007.

In September 2007, a Ghanaian educationist, Mr Christon Quoa pioneered and laid a solid foundation for Moncordel International School with 7 teachers and 30 pupils in a private residence at No 7 Chukwu Street that is off Steliian Road in Elelenwo. The news of Mr Quao’s ingenuity, professionalism and performance circulated the entire town and won the admiration of parents.  Hence, the sudden population increase and the urgent need to leave the humble place were they started the school. In 2009, Moncordel relocated to Elimnigwe Housing Estate, Elelenwo.

Interestingly, Moncordel International School that had a humble beginning now has over 500 pupils and students on roll with over 57 staff. The School has won several awards at competitions, made 100% passes at external exams and is currently developing one of the biggest school properties in the Local Government Area where they operate. Their mustard seed strategy of starting small, then, growing and glowing worked well. With God Almighty as their backbone, unsurpassed creativity and resourcefulness, many schools copy them and use them as their benchmark. Nevertheless, being the first school to introduce e-learning (instant lessons received from UK via integrated ICT platform) and the first to inculcate ICT studies in their curricula in Rivers State, the first to commence organizing inter-school competitions in Elelenwo, collaboration with other schools outside Nigeria, Moncordel stand to achieve their desired vision to become the high performing and most preferred school by parents and guardians in Nigeria.
