History of oritamefa baptist nursery primary school Crèche/Pre-School

Oritamefa Baptist church underwent a period of very rapid growth between the year 1966 to 1969 and this was accompanied by visible and marked increase in the number of children both of members and others in the neighbourhood attending Sunday school classes and church services. An acute need was therefore felt for the establishment of a Nursery School to cater for these children. After prayerful and thoughtful consideration and foresight, the school was founded by the members of ORITAMEFA BAPTIST CHURCH under the leadership of Reverend C.M Bowen, who was the American Pastor of the church at the time. They all felt the need for a school where Christian and moral principles may develop with sound education. On the basis of this, ORITAMEFA BAPTIST CHURCH made the Sunday school building available to accommodate the initial Nursery classes of the school. The names of those who must be mentioned in the founding and establishment of the school are Late Deacon A.O Bamgbose, Deacon A . Akinlawon, Mr. B.F Dada & Mrs. A. Taiwo. These among others, supported by the membership of the church, were involved in the organization, planning and establishment of the school. Necessary approval was sought and obtained from the Western State Ministry of Education. The Nursery and Primary School opened its doors to the 1st Batch of children on the 19th of January, 1970 with Mrs. Adeniyi as its first and foundation headmistress. The fortune of Oritamefa Baptist Nursery and Primary school went down from over 1,000 to about 600. Income of the school could no longer meet the spiraling expenditure, especially staff emoluments. The church had to assume the responsibility of augmenting the income of the school in order to meet important expenditures. An attempt to arrest the down turn in income by increasing school fees aggravated the situation because there were/are multitudes of cheap Nursery/ Primary School around Total garden. Parents/guardians then withdrew their children/wards to those schools It became expedient to carry out staff structural adjustment exercise on aprogrammed basis/phases. The goal was to reduce expenditure on staff emoluments, which gulped about 80% of the school income. Younger qualified teachers were employed on a competitive salary scale while the old staff members on high salaries were discharged with full benefits To God be the glory the school gained financial stability and enrolment has reached a level of over 1,000 pupils The following people were privileged to serve as Chairman Deacon O.
