History of Salma Safehands School

5 years ago, the vision was birthed. The mission was clear; to empower children with all they need to stand out for Christ wherever they find themselves in life, becoming responsible leaders in the society and exemplary ambassadors of Christ. We opened our doors on the 16th of September 2016 to 16 children and 18 staff, we were committed to making the best out of these ones committed to our care. We partnered with relevant stakeholders and embarked on relevant trainings to get our staff equipped for the journey ahead which have continued till date. With a firm belief in the One who had called us onto this mission, we trudged on and true to his nature he kept his side of the bargain by not only sending us people but the special breed of parents our community is made up of. You would agree with me that we sure have a special breed. We capitalized on the small number at inception to crystallize our philosophy of raising the children as unique individuals by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and working them through it. Over the years, we have seen our children do well academically through our proven balance of hard work and play. Worthy of note is our partnership with the home front because we believe that the parents are every child’s first educator. We have constantly held forums with the parents where the children’s progress is discussed and relevant issues regarding parenting are handled. Our belief that learning goes beyond the walls of school has led us to take our children on several trips around Enugu, Awka in Anambra state and to Lagos. These trips have exposed our children to learnings that could never have been gotten in the four walls of the classroom. Our extracurricular activities which have spanned these five years consist of Music and Dance Classes, Martial Arts, Public Speaking, Arts & Crafts and Homemakers Clubs. These have proven veritable tools in raising a total child. Yearly sports competitions and cultural day events have been such a platform to display the versatility and hone silent skills and talents our children possess. The Story Project is a project of The SafeHands that organizes. yearly Easter story events for children beyond the school community aimed at telling the true story of Easter and helping children reconnect with the true essence of our faith. In 2021, we launched the Salma Leadership Academy, SLA. SLA was developed with a robust curriculum on Leadership, Communication, Etiquette, Creativity, School of the Spirit, Character and Sexuality Education. This is aimed at giving our children the proper finishing and equipment to thrive as they go into secondary school. Through the ups and downs, the highs and lows we are grateful to God who has been our solid foundation and major partner in raising the total child. Today with about 45 staff and over 200 children, we raise our glasses to toast to many more years of fulfilling vision. May the unwavering grace and love of God which has led us thus far continue to keep us till the end of time.
