Bishop Nwedo Memorial Boys’ High School

Our founder, Bishop Anthony Gogo Nwedo, CSSp of blessed memory, was a humble, dedicated and erudite academician. He believed that even that there are no barriers to educating people. This is why he chose as his motto “Evangelizare Pauperibus Misist mea” which means evangelizing to the poor around me. First, he believed that we are born with Spiritual, intellectual moral abilities, innate in us by our divine father. But a world filled with confusion has made us Spiritually, Intellectually and morally poor. He founded the Missionary Congregation of the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy in 1970, to pursue this apostolate of educating the poor and the ignorant. It is based on this that Bishop Nwedo in spreading the Gospel founded many schools for which our noble institute happens to be one of them. Bishop Anthony Nwedo founded our school on the 15th of August, 1993 being the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Blessed Virgin Mary. It opened and admitted students officially on the 8th of September, 1993 being the Birthday of our Blessed Virgin Mary. There were about 150 young boys who were pioneer students of this school and Fr. Nicholas Okorie, SMMM as the Pioneer Principal. As a result of Bishop Nwedo’s firm devotion to the blessed mother Mary and the significance of these dates, he named the School Lorreto Boys’ High School. This School is situated in the Northern Part of Umuahia in Abia State, Nigeria, precisely Umuchime – Ossah. After the Death of the Founder, the School was named after him to remember a man who believed that God created us to be the best and we shall work to be the best. Our institute for over twenty years has produced the best to flourish in our society. It has won and participated in many state and national competition. The school is currently managed by the Congregation of the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy.
