Our primary school currently has 45 pupils, who are taught in learning groups of mixed ages. In our bilingual system, we have a class 1/2 and 3/4 classes in the German stream and class 1/2 and 3/4 classes in the English stream. With a current maximum of 15 children in a class, individual teaching attention is possible in an appropriate learning atmosphere for primary school. The variety and diversity is something which we at the GSIS consider as enriching and an opportunity for growth.   Our German stream lessons follow the German Thuringian curriculum and comprise of all subjects taught in a German primary school. Five lessons per week are allocated for German and English (as a foreign language) in the respective streams with the objective of attaining a high language level in the second language. This is complimented by bilingual lessons in subjects like social studies, art, music and sports are taught across both streams. This enables the pupils to learn the language and culture from one another and together. In so-doing, a holistic and learning by discovery forms the basis for promoting personal, social and methodical competencies.

History of german-swiss-international- school accra Nursery/Primary

In early 1966, was the RMS Swiss School in Accra, Ghana, established thanks to enormous initiative of the Swiss colony in Ghana. Special attention goes to the spouses Gottfried and Marianne Bolleter who participated significantly as local businessmen in the construction of the school.  The Swiss School in Accra bears her name in memory of the Swiss missionary Friedrich August Ramseyer, who worked from 1864 to during 44 years on the "Gold Coast". He first worked as a supervisor of construction works in Accra (then Christiansborg). With regard to the health of his wife he had to be moved after three years. At first he was entrusted with the school in Akropong, later he should take over the mission in Anum. But meanwhile, broke out in the south of the war the British and the southern tribes against the Ashanti.FA Ramseyer was conducted as a prisoner to Kumasi with his family and released only after 5 years.
