Melvin Jones Lions Academy

From its inception in 1993, The Academy has been on an upward trajectory in all facets of international education. The school offers the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) Curriculum, from year 1 to year 13(A levels). I thank the members of staff for embracing the spirit of teamwork and ultimately every ounce of energy, ideas and creativity from them has immensely led to a fantastic development and advancement of the school. Special thank you also goes to our students who are always ready and willing to go the extra mile to achieve their targets. I also take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, the Lions Club of Nakuru for the faith and trust they have bestowed in me to take the school to the next level. Last, but not least, the School Administrator, Ms Rebecca Mwaura for her encouragement and daily support to ensure the institution runs smoothly. The academic years have been a success by all standards of measure. Students of this great academy have given their all, whenever called upon. They can be trusted to deliver; be it on the academics or extra-curricular front, often emerging with honours. The team of teachers can confidently come up with whatever programmes, and with the self-drive of the children, look up to its phenomenal execution. This synergy has seen the school surpass its limit and punch above its weight. We have produced the best candidate in IGCSE examinations, 2016, globally. Other candidates have won the Cambridge Learners Awards in different subjects. The school has an enviable track record in producing Mr Little Kenya, Prince Fortune, year 8, for three consecutive years. The face of Dura coat paints advertisement, Clara Mereso, Year 3 A comes from this great institution. In January of 2022, Manveer Singh, Year 6 was invited to attend training with Barcelona academy juniors. An incredible achievement for the boy! His videos can be found on YouTube. We strive to nurture students who are responsible, curious and confident; ready for the 21st-century challenges. The double streaming, now in year 4, has responded to the ever-increasing demand for international education in the country. We offer affordable, yet quality international education. With the town elevated to city status, we are positioned to tap into this raw market. Our disciplined and passionate approach to the programmes we run has given us a cutting edge in the market. We are anchored on two pillars: discipline and academic excellence. Being an academy, from year 1 to year 13, the senior students continuously inspire the young ones. Against all odds, they have proved that working hard consistently does pay. With limited resources, the School has shown that it can compete on the same level with fellow acclaimed schools. This culture of success must be inculcated in every student in the academy. The challenge to all stakeholders is bringing up another generation of students with the same zeal and willpower to excel like the pacesetters. MOTTO Excellence in education and service through diligence VISION To empower the learner with holistic education for self-actualization MISSION To become an enviable centre of excellence in education, that fosters graduates able to go forth and enhance humanity through noble service.

History of Melvin Jones Lions Academy

We are a mixed day school established in 1991 and named in honour of the founder of Lions Clubs International, Melvin Jones. The Academy is part of a larger complex of three sister schools sponsored by the Lions Club of Nakuru, which is an affiliate of the world’s largest service organization namely Lions Clubs International. We had our humble beginning in the premises of our adjacent sister school, Lions Primary, with Mrs. Padmini Ramakrishnan as the first Headmistress. We shifted to our present location in January 1993 under Mrs. S. K. Gill, where we have steadily grown in size and numbers to become a centre of excellence in education. The other past Heads were Mrs. Cynthia D’Cunha and Mr. Vijay Sharma in that order. Mr. Robinson Alianda, is the current Principal, took over in February 2018. Lion Purvi Shah is the current Chairman of Lions Club of Nakuru Schools Management Board. In pursuit of the Lions motto “We Serve”, the school strives to cater for the ever increasing demand for quality education by the community. We are in close proximity with the town centre yet enjoy a serene atmosphere free of the hustle and bustle of every day town life. Our student population stands at 380, with a diligent teaching staff of 32 and a dedicated Twelve-member Support staff. Our strength lies in the prudent planning by the management, devoted staff, an ever present culture of discipline and excellent educational facilities. We are well enabled to prepare the learners for challenges of the present and future.
